Description

Folded postcards give you the reach of a postcard with the room of a mini-brochure. The fold doubles or triples your printable panels, so you can put a hook on the outside and the full story — a menu, a schedule, an event program, a detailed offer — on the inside. They mail like a postcard but say much more, which makes them a favorite for restaurants, real estate, events, and multi-step promotions.

Half-fold and tri-fold, nine sizes

Choose the fold and finished size that fits your message:

  • Half-fold: 8″ x 6″ (folds to 4″ x 6″), 10″ x 7″ (to 5″ x 7″), 11″ x 8.5″ (to 5.5″ x 8.5″), 12″ x 8″ (to 6″ x 8″), and 12″ x 11″ (to 6″ x 11″).
  • Tri-fold: 12″ x 6″ (to 4″ x 6″), 12.75″ x 6″ (to 4.25″ x 6″), 15″ x 7″ (to 5″ x 7″), and 16.5″ x 8.5″ (to 5.5″ x 8.5″).

The size you pick is the flat, unfolded dimension; the label shows what it folds down to.

Gloss or matte cardstock

Both stocks are 10 Pt cardstock: choose Glossy for punchy, saturated color and photos that pop, or Matte for a softer, more readable finish that’s easier to write on and glare-free under light.

Print your folded postcards on one side or both

Print full color on the front only, or use both sides so every panel — inside and out — carries your design.

What you get

Order from 250 to 5,000 folded postcards. Standard production runs 2 to 4 business days, and rush printing brings it down to 2 business days when you’re on a deadline. Everything is printed in-house on our Konica AccurioPress production press in Morristown, Tennessee.

Before you pay, you will see a live proof of your card with the bleed, trim, and safe area drawn on top, so your panels line up and nothing important lands on the fold. Designing from scratch? The Templates tab above has every folded postcard size ready in AI, INDD, PSD, PDF, and JPG.

Design Guide

For the best results, set up your file to these specifications before uploading. Following them helps ensure accurate cutting, correct color, and a clean, professional print.

Document Size and Bleed

Design your file at the flat, unfolded size — the first dimension in the name. For example, an “8” x 6″ (folds to 4″ x 6″)” card is built as a flat 8″ x 6″ document. Then:

  • Extend your background 0.0625″ past the trim on every outside edge (the bleed).
  • Keep all text and logos 0.0625″ inside the trim (the safe area).
  • Set the fold line(s) as guides and keep important text and logos clear of each crease, so nothing critical gets caught in the fold.

Print file setup diagram showing bleed, trim and safe zones

The easiest way to get the flats and folds exactly right is to start from our templates, which already have the trim, bleed, safe area, and fold lines drawn in for each size.

Image Quality

Create or place all images and graphics at a minimum of 350 DPI at final print size. Low-resolution artwork looks soft or pixelated once printed, and enlarging a small image will not add detail back.

Color Mode

Design in CMYK, the standard color format for commercial printing. Files built in RGB will be converted for print, and bright blues, greens, and neons can shift noticeably. Converting them yourself lets you see and correct those shifts before you order.

Color Profile

Use GRACoL2006_Coated1v2.icc. This is the profile our press is calibrated to, and designing in it is the closest you can get to seeing your printed result on screen before it is printed. Set it under Edit > Color Settings > CMYK in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and keep it assigned when you export.

Blacks

For large solid black areas, use C60 M40 Y40 K100. Black on its own (K100) is semi-transparent and looks washed out across a big fill. For small text, thin lines, and fine details, use plain K100 instead, since rich black on small elements can cause colored fringing. This matters on folded postcards, where inside panels often mix bold color with smaller body text.

Fonts

Convert all text to outlines before saving, or embed the fonts in your PDF. A font we do not have installed will be substituted, and your layout will change.

Accepted File Formats

We support PDF, AI, EPS, PSD, TIF, TIFF, JPG, PNG, BMP, and GIF. Whenever possible, submit a print-ready PDF — it preserves your fonts, layout, and color settings better than any other format.

File Size Limit

Uploaded files must be 75 MB or smaller. If your file is larger, contact us and we will set up an alternative transfer method.

Start From a Template

The easiest path is to skip the setup entirely. The Templates tab above has every size ready to download in AI, INDD, PSD, PDF, and JPG, with the trim, bleed, safe area, and fold lines already drawn in.

File Review and Proof

After you upload, you will see a live proof of your card with the bleed, trim, and safe area drawn on top — review it before you pay. Your file also goes through a brief pre-production check to confirm dimensions, bleed, and resolution. If we spot anything that could affect the print, we will reach out before moving forward.

Before You Submit

Files that are not set up to spec can delay production. Double-check your document size, bleed, resolution, fold placement, and color mode before uploading, and when in doubt, start from a template.

FAQ
What is the difference between half-fold and tri-fold?

A half-fold folds once into two panels; a tri-fold folds twice into three panels for even more room. We offer five half-fold sizes and four tri-fold sizes, so you can match the layout to how much you need to say.

What sizes do folded postcards come in?

Nine flat sizes. Half-fold: 8x6, 10x7, 11x8.5, 12x8, and 12x11. Tri-fold: 12x6, 12.75x6, 15x7, and 16.5x8.5. Each label shows the folded (finished) size in parentheses.

Do I design at the flat size or the folded size?

Design at the flat, unfolded size (the first dimension in the name). Set the fold lines as guides and keep important text and logos clear of the crease. The downloadable templates already mark the folds and safe area.

What paper are folded postcards printed on?

Two 10 Pt cardstocks: Glossy for saturated, photo-friendly color, or Matte for a softer, glare-free finish that is easier to read and write on.

What are folded postcards good for?

They suit anything that needs more space than a flat card: restaurant menus, event programs, real estate detail cards, multi-step promotions, and self-mailers where the outside grabs attention and the inside tells the story.

How fast can I get them, and what is the minimum?

Minimum order is 250. Standard production takes 2 to 4 business days, and rush printing brings it down to 2 business days. Shipping time is added on top and depends on your address.

Do you offer free folded postcard templates?

Yes. Every folded postcard size and fold (half-fold and tri-fold) has a free downloadable template with the trim, bleed, safe area, and fold lines already drawn in. Each one comes in AI, INDD, PSD, PDF, and JPG, so your panels line up the first time. Download them from the Templates tab above.
